The Phoenix broke the set open with a string of four points, during which Maritinho nailed back-to-back untouched shots. The Tigers made a valiant retaliation while facing a five point disadvantage, muscling through a 7-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. The Phoenix were stifled by their own unforced errors in the final push, making for a competitive ending. Facing a 20-20 deadlock, Cumberland gained momentum from a kill by Hazel Konkel to close out the set on a 6-1 run. Kayla Andre delivered the final blow from the middle, giving Cumberland the game's advantage with a 25-21 finish.
The Tigers opened the second frame with determination, quickly capturing a four point lead with the help of two kills and an ace. Just as quickly, a trio of blocks from Cumberland chipped away at the difference, sparking an exchange of runs as the set progressed. The set's latter half saw recurring attack errors from Georgetown, allowing the Phoenix to run away with the score and complete a 25-20 win. Despite doubling Cumberland's kill count with eight total, the Tigers were impeded by 17 attack errors- seven of which were at the hands of the Phoenix blockers.
The teams battled closely together throughout the entire third set, leading to a 21-21 knotted score. The Phoenix appeared to be on their way to a sweep as they gained the next two points, but the Tigers had other plans. Georgetown connected on three consecutive swings, gaining a 24-23 advantage and making it either side's game from that point. The Tigers narrowly avoided the sweep, sending the set into extra points and earning the final two to force a fourth set.
Georgetown's excitement carried into set four as they sparked a 5-0 run to clinch an early advantage and force Cumberland to recollect in a timeout. The Tigers, however, continued to build on their momentum and pushed the margin as far as 12 before the Phoenix could secure a point. Facing a daunting uphill battle, the Phoenix were unable to defend against Georgetown's .423 team attack percentage and suffered a 13 point loss.
The deciding fifth set began in Georgetown's favor as they nabbed three consecutive kills, but the Phoenix made a swift recovery to reset the score at an even 5-5. At the 9-9 standoff, the Tigers took control of the net as Bruce counted four kills in the final eight points including the game-ending swing. With a 15-12 win, Georgetown ended Cumberland's season in a tenacious reverse sweep style.
