Phoenix down Webber International to Pick Up Two Wins in Florida

LAKE WALES, Fla.--In a one-point game in fourth quarter, freshman Maddie Brillhart sealed the win with three-straight three pointers to push the lead to double-figures and pick up the second Cumberland win in Florida this week.

Cumberland (6-5) lead most of the way, but Webber International fought the whole way out getting within a couple of possessions multiple times after the Phoenix went on runs.

The Phoenix shot just 36.4% from the field, but made big shots when they needed too. Cumberland went 5-of-20 from deep including the three down the stretch from Brillhart.

CU dominated the glass picking up 47 rebounds including 18 offensive rebounds that turned into 14 second chance points.

Lindsey Freeman finished with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Gordon had 10 points, all in the second half, eight rebounds, and five dimes. Myajae Eubanks posted seven points and Jana Claire Swafford picked up six points, four boards, and four assists.

Brillhart finished with nine points, all in the closing minutes to seal the win. Faith Colston posted two points, but finished with a game-high 11 rebounds. Emaleigh Tarpley also added seven points and seven rebounds and Alyssa Goehring scored five points.

Eubanks started the game on fire scoring the first five points of the game for Cumberland. After she scored on the opening possession, Webber scored the next four points before Cumberland went on 7-0 run to get up 9-4 at the media timeout.

Freeman took over the back half of the first quarter scoring 10 points in the quarter. Tarpley drilled a three to push Cumberlannd's lead to double-figures in the final minute, but a bucket from Webber cut it to 20-11 at the end of the first.

The Knights started the second quarter on a 7-2 run to get within two possessions at 22-18. Tarpley made one-of-two free throws to stop the spurt for Webber and Swafford followed with a jumper to lead 25-18.

The Phoenix fell cold over the next four minutes, allowing Webber to go on a 8-1 run to get within a point. Alyssa Goehring made a lay up and Swafford made one free throw for the final point of the half and a 29-25 lead.

Out of the half, Gordon scored her first points and extended that to the first five for the Phoenix in the half when she converted an and-one and gave Cumberland a nine-point lead 34-25.

Leading 42-34 after Tarpley drained a three, Webber scored the next two baskets for a quick 4-0 run to get within four points. Cumberland answered as Freeman scored on the following two possessions to get it back to an eight point lead where it stood going into the fourth quarter, 49-41.

The Knights Jemasisa Klopsis drained a three to start the fourth and get within five. After both sides swapped a free throw, Gordon made a layup to get up by seven, 52-45, with 8:02 to play.

From that point, the Knights scored the next seven points to get with one trailing 52-51. Gordon stopped the skid for Cumberland with two free throws and freshman Maddie Brillhart got hot from outside knocking down three straight threes to push Cumberland's lead back to 10, 63-53, with 2:57.

Cumberland cruised to the finish line defending out and managing the clock well to win by seven, 65-58.

The Phoenix will have a quick turnaround as they will travel from Florida to Indiana to take part in the Taylor Classic in Upland, Indiana starting on Tuesday.
