Three Phoenix Attackers hit Double-Figure kills in 3-1 win Over Georgetown

Lebanon, Tenn.-- Cumberland keeps a clean conference record with a 3-1 win over Georgetown. The Phoenix posted a season-high 14 blocks and saw solid performances from multiple attackers.
Freshman Haley Mitchell had a huge night for the Phoenix, posting 16 kills with zero errors. Two other Phoenix attackers hit double-figures as Lauren Galvan and Hazel Konkel matched for 12 kills each. Konkel played a part in eight of Cumberland's 14 blocks.
The Tigers got up early with a 3-0 start, a lead which they would protect down the stretch of set one. A number of defensive miscommunications held CU at a disadvantage through the middle stages and they trailed by as many as six.
The final push saw Cumberland's first significant run of the day with Bryleigh Yarbough keeping the serve for four balls to cut the deficit to three. A sharp cut from Galvan on the outside evened out the score at 23-23 to make for a tight close and one that would require extra points.
A pair of deep kills from Georgetown's Olivia Mitchell ended it in their favor, 29-27.
The Phoenix held complete control of set two's momentum, rattling off five straight early on to create some separation. Cumberland spread their lead as far as twelve points with the help of their unstoppable offensive efforts.
The Phoenix more than doubled Georgetown's kill count, making for an impressive .448 team attack percentage and a 25-13 victory.
Cumberland carried their energy into the third frame as a string of Tiger errors created a comfortable 10-4 distance. Once again the Phoenix maintained full control over the net, committing only two attack errors all set long to cruise to a 25-15 win.
The Cumberland blockers seemed to get their hands on everything in the fourth
The final set of the evening was another strong team effort from CU while the Tigers struggled to keep up with their fast-paced offense. Cumberland kept their energy up the whole way through, ending the set with a six point run to take it at 25-11.
The Phoenix will stay at home for their next match this Friday, September 29 when they host the University of the Cumberlands at 7 PM.
