Cumberland Wrestling Earns Home Victory Over Midway

LEBANON, Tenn.-- In their first home appearance of the season, Cumberland wrestling comes out on top with a 34-9 victory over Midway.
The Phoenix took an early lead as Jack Latimer secured victory in the 157 weight class with a commanding 20-3 technical fall against Brent Hudgins. Eli Clemmons continued the momentum, thrilling the crowd with a pin against Jabril Williams at the 6:56 mark, earning an 11-0 score advantage.
Cole Smith maintained the team's high spirits with a quick pin at 3:23 in the 174 class against Sebastian Hutchinson. Despite Noah Barclay putting the Eagles on the board with a close 8-7 decision over Rocco Horvath, Cumberland's Kaden Stutzman retaliated in the 197 class with a dominant 13-4 major decision over David Emfinger.
At a scoreboard mark of 21-3, Evan Dixon conceded a 6-0 decision to Byron Pierce, contributing three points to Midway's score. However, the Phoenix swiftly recovered as Chris Bustil posted the third pin of the night, defeating Andrew Vogeler at 2:19 in the 125 class.
In the 133 class, Sammy Shires extended Cumberland's lead to 30-6 with an 8-4 decision over Anthony Caruso. The battle in the 141 weight class between two top-25 wrestlers ended in Midway's favor with Jared Dinh falling in a close 6-5 decision.
Cumberland reasserted their dominance to close out the evening, with Victor Guzman securing a 13-4 major decision victory over Kaleb Clark in the 149 class.

The Phoenix will head out on the road next Wednesday, January 17 for a tough battle against No. 4 Campbellsville before taking on the Missouri Valley Invite that weekend.
