Lindsey Wilson erases Phoenix lead and Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter to Win, 65-56

COLUMBIA, Ky.--The Phoenix had an eight-point lead, but Lindsey Wilson shot it well from deep and pulled away in the fourth quarter to get the 65-56 win over Cumberland. 

Cumberland (7-11, 0-5 MSC) did all they could, but could not hold on down the stretch to finish the job. The Phoenix shot 31.7% from the field and made 3-of-18 from three. Cumberland outrebounded Lindsey Wilson 48-to-39. 

Kayla Gordon posted her fifth-consecutive 20+ point game leading all scorers with 21 points on 7-for-16 shooting. Lindsey Freeman posted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Lindsey Wilson (15-6, 3-2 MSC) knocked down eight threes and got the line 24 times making 17 free throws. The Blue Raiders shot the exact same field goal percentage as Cumberland shooting 31.7% from the field, the Blue Raiders just posted five more made threes. 

Amelia Hodges led Lindsey Wilson with 15 points and made three of their eight triples. Janiya Davis finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Sydnie Hall was the final Blue Raider in double figures with 11 points. 

Freeman scored the first basket of the game and Eubanks and Swafford each connected on a shot to grab a 6-5 lead. The Phoenix fell scoreless for three minutes of play while the Blue Raiders built a 4-0 run to lead 9-5.

Cumberland picked up back-to-back baskets to get down 9-8 and battled to the end of the first with Brillhart getting an offensive rebound and putback for the final points of the quarter to tie it 14-14. 

To start the second, Tarpley and Colston hit back-to-back threes, Cumberland's first made three pointers after going 0-for the past two games. Cumberland built an eight-point lead with a 7-0 run to go up 27-19 after Gordon made a layup. The Blue Raiders chipped away at the lead to trail at the half, 31-26. 

To start the second half, Sydnie Hall hit a three for Lindsey, before a quick 4-0 spurt for the Phoenix to push it back to a six-point lead. 

Cumberland fell cold over the next four minutes of game time as Lindsey Wilson took advantage with a 7-0 run to grab their first lead since the first quarter at 36-35. The lead was short-lived as Gordon converted an and-one to stop the run and get some momentum back for Cumberland. 

The Phoenix rode that swing to a four-point lead at 42-38. Hodges hit two threes in the final minute to tie the game at 44-44 going into the fourth. 

In the early minutes of the fourth, Cumberland lead 48-47 before another three for Lindsey Wilson found the bottom of the net to spark a 5-0 spurt and give them a 52-48. Freeman hit to free throws to cut it  to a two-point game at the final media timeout.

Out of the timeout, Lindsey Wilson scored on back-to-back possession to lead 56-60. The Phoenix got it back to a two possession game at 58-54, but down the stretch the Blue Raiders knocked down the free throws and pushed it to a 65-56 final.
