Women's Volleyball falls 3-0 against Campbellsville

LEBANON, TENN.-- Cumberland Women's Volleyball falls 3-0 to Campbellsville.

Lila Cade and Haley Mitchell combined for 16 total kills while Manoella Gomes and Emma Chavers combined for 21 total assists and the Phoenix combined for a total of three aces. 

The first set started out with Campbellsville going on a 4-0 run against the Phoenix to make the score 5-1. The Tigers got some more points off of back-to-back service aces to make the score 9-3. A Hazel Konkel kill got the Phoenix back in reach at 11-7. Cumberland got within three after a huge kill by Lila Cade. Haley Mitchell got on the board with a big kill assisted by Manoella Gomes to bring Cumberland back within three points at 15-12. Three attack errors by the Phoenix put the Tigers up 22-14 after small runs by both teams. Campbellsville takes set one, 25-16 after a big kill by the Tigers.

The second set started out back and forth with some long points for both teams. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run to make the score 9-3 early in set two. Lila Cade got the Phoenix back in action with a service ace. Campbellsville went on several runs to pull away by as much as seven points while Cumberland fought hard to get back into set two. Haley Mitchell gave CU some momentum after a big kill to take away a 3-0 run by the Tigers. The Tigers of Campbellsville went on another 6-0 run which carried them to a victorious set two at 25-12.

Set three started out back and forth until Campbellsville went on a 6-0 run to lead the Phoenix by three points. Mitchell answered back with another huge kill to shorten the lead for the Tigers. The Tigers committed an attacking error that brought the Phoenix back within two at 6-4. CU answered back again with a 4-0 run to tie the game at 8-8. Campbellsville went on a 5-0 run to make the score 15-10 but the Phoenix quickly had a huge kill by Lila Cade and the Tigers committed a couple of errors to bring the Phoenix back within two points at 15-13. After a big run by the Tigers, the Phoenix fought hard to comeback after a Emma Chavers ace but the Tigers held off the comeback winning the third and final set 25-17

The Phoenix will be back in action October 8, at 7:00 PM against Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn.
