Women's Soccer Drop First MSC Game to No. 16 Campbellsville

LEBANON, TENN. - - The Cumberland Women's Soccer team dropped their first Mid-South game of the season, falling 5-3 to No. 16 Campbellsville.

The Phoenix held most of the momentum early in the game recording two corner kicks in the first five minutes of the game. Kadisha Martina got the Phoenix on the board in the 11th minute, putting away a long switch pass all the way across the field by Grace Morris, giving Martina her 11th goal of the season.

Cumberland scored just eight minutes later from a Tiger own goal that was brought into the box by Gabby Jones. The senior forward took the ball into the box and her cross deflected off a Campbellsville a into the net. Just one minute later, Martina found herself inside the box alone with two defenders and did multiple stepovers, working her way through, and secured her second goal of the first half to make the score 3-0 for Cumberland.

The Phoenix defense gave up a goal 35 minutes into the first half by Paula Sanabria who conceded the goal off of an assist by Alba Vea across the box and headed in. Molly Metcalf shortened the deficit for the Tigers late in the first half after a rocket of a shot was too hard to handle for the Phoenix keeper.

Cumberland came out hot early on in the second half, trying to get on the board after a couple of shots on goal immediately after the break. The Tigers however had everything going their way in the second period and Lina Berrah scored a hatrick to turn the Campbellsville deficit from 3-0 into a 5-3 victory.

The Phoenix will be back in action next Wednesday for their Senior Day Festivities on October 9th. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
