Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Roadrunners Outpace the Phoenix in Dalton

DALTON, Ga. - - The Cumberland Men's Basketball couldn't find a way past the Dalton State Roadrunners, dropping their away game 91-72.

Making sure that they weren't plagued by the same issues that have often followed them this season, the Phoenix ran out to an early lead. Going back and forth for the first several minutes, it was Jalin Anglin hitting back-to-back threes that set Cumberland apart from the Roadrunners early on.

The second three pointer by Anglin put the Phoenix ahead by three possessions, a lead that they held onto all the way up until there was eight minutes left in the first half. Despite their flying start, Cumberland fell behind as Dalton State went on a 12-point run to take the lead back, and they never surrendered it again.

Riggs Abner, Triston Conger, and Khi Wallace all hit shots to get the Phoenix back within a single point but the Roadrunners hit shots when they needed to to stay ahead. Wallace's jumper to make it a one-point game was the closest that CU would get to being back in the game, as DSU ended the half on another double-digit run.

Cumberland hung in the game with the Roadrunners to start the second half, going shot for shot early on after the break, though the deficit proved too much to overcome. Anglin and Wallace both continued to build on their big first halves, seeing Anglin get into the 20's and Wallace join him with double-digits.

Triston Conger was the final member of the Phoenix to break the ten point barrier, scoring 12 points and adding in 6 more assists.Braxton Carruthers saw his first action of the season and added in 5 boards and a hattrick of assists to go along with it.

The Phoenix will be back in action on Saturday as they take on the Trevecca Nazarene University. Cumberland will take the short trip down I-40 to take on the Trojans, a side they haven't faced since 2012, though CU has a six-game win streak against TNU.
