Offense was slow out of the gate as the both sides fought to an 8-8 score after seven minutes of play. Cumberland took a brief lead after Conger made a two, but the Bulldogs drilled back-to-back threes to spark a 10-2 run to give the Bulldogs a 18-12 lead at the 10-minute mark.

Boyd made two jumpers on the next two Phoenix possessions to get Cumberland back in it briefly, but Ty Runman answered with two-straight shots for Wesleyan to keep the Phoenix deficit at six. Nick Brunetti drilled a three to spark an 8-2 Cumberland capped by a Riggs Abner three to tie the game at 24-24 with 5:35 left in the half.

Trailing 28-27, Conger threw an alley-oop to Wallace to regain the lead. Jay Reed scored the next three points for the Bulldogs with a free throw and a bucket before Cooper Abner tied the game with a lay in. Conger found Wallace again with lob to tie the game and Cooper knocked in two free throws for a 35-33 Cumberland lead at the half.
