Senior Day Matchup Ends in Defeat Against No. 11 Georgetown

LEBANON, Tenn.-- Cumberland's women's basketball team suffered a Senior Day defeat against the formidable top-15 offense of Georgetown, marking the end of Cumberland's regular season.

The Phoenix (10-15, 3-9 MSC) struggled early, unable to mount significant scoring runs. Shooting 35.4% from the field and making just two of eleven attempts from three-point range, both in the first quarter, Cumberland faced an uphill battle.

In their final appearances at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena, Kayla Gordon and Lindsey Freeman led Cumberland in scoring. Gordon contributed 19 points, while Freeman added 10 points and seven rebounds. Emaleigh Tarpley came off the bench to contribute nine points and four boards.

Georgetown (23-5, 8-4 MSC) relied on Erin Toller, who scored 22 points, including four three-pointers. Izzy Lamparty added 16 points for Georgetown.
Georgetown set the tone early, draining a shot from beyond the arc on their first possession in the opening quarter.

Cumberland struggled to score in the first three minutes of play, falling behind 10-0 before Freeman scored with an eight-foot jumper.

Georgetown extended their lead to 20 points in the second quarter with a 7-0 run. Although Cumberland narrowed the gap with solid free-throw shooting, Georgetown maintained a 16-point lead at halftime with six three-pointers and a 56.7% shooting percentage.

Gordon's two tightly contested layups at the start of the third quarter were not enough to slow Georgetown, who went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-point lead. The Tigers were shooting a perfect 100% from the free-throw line as they headed into the final quarter.

Cumberland percentages improved in the fourth quarter, shooting 7-of-8 from the free throw line and adding five points in the paint. However, the deficit was too large to overcome, and Cumberland ultimately fell 73-59.
