Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Campbellsville beats Cumberland in the Final Minute of the Game to Win 75-73

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Cumberland Men's Basketball led majority of the game, but the Tigers kept hanging in before taking the lead in the final minute of the game. The Phoenix had a shot at an inbound play with 0.8 seconds on the clock and took a chance with a three for the win, but it rattled off the rim giving Campbellsville a 75-73 win over the Phoenix.

Cumberland (6-15, 2-5 MSC) battled in an electric game, but fell just short. The Phoenix shot 40.3% from the field and drained 11 triples, but struggled at the free throw line making 8-of-18 tries.

The starters logged all, but six points for the Phoenix in this game led by a great effort from Keyshawn Robinson. The redshirt freshman had a game-high 19 points with nine rebounds and three assists. Demarius Boyd added 18 on 7-for-21 shooting with four triples. Triston Conger posted 12 points, nine boards, and three assists and Doyle Cockrill III had a big second half to score 10 points.

Kamarie Coffey finished with eight points and six rebounds before he fouled out and Beljwok Adiang added the six points off the bench before he fouled out as well.

Campbellsville (15-7, 3-4 MSC) shot 44.8% from the field with five three-pointers. The Tigers added 18 points from the free throw line shooting 64.3% from the charity stripe.

Chandler Clements had a big game posting a 17 point, 12 rebound double-double. Darius Harding had 16 and hit two threes. Jay Milburn was big down the stretch finishing with 16 points and seven boards.

Action was slow to start the game as the Phoenix picked up an early 2-1 lead from the free throw line after three minutes of play. Boyd knocked down a triple from the corner to get the action fired up, but the Phoenix got stuck on five for the next four minutes of game play allowing Campbellsville to go on a 12-0 run and lead 13-5.

A steal from Robinson got Cumberland sparked a quick 4-0 spurt for the Phoenix to trail by four at the first media.

After the media, the Tigers built it to their largest lead at 9 with a 7-2 run up 20-11 with 9:33 left in the half, but Cumberland responded with threes from Robinson and Coffey on a 7-0 run to get it to a one possession game.

Down 25-20, back-to-back threes from Conger and Boyd gave Cumberland the lead and they never gave it up the rest of the first half going into the break up 37-32.

Cumberland started the second half with another 7-0 run capped by a three from Boyd for the Phoenix's largest lead of the game up 44-32.

Over the next seven minutes, the Tigers chipped away at the lead, cutting into the deficit to six at the media.

Campbellsville cut it to a one-point game at 56-55 with a layup from Cobe Penny, but Cockrill responded with a three-ball to push it back to two possessions. The Phoenix pushed the lead back to six at 67-61 with five minutes to play.

Campbellsville went on a 5-0 run with an and-one from Milburn and a layup from Clements to ignite the crowd, but Boyd again responded with a timely three to get it back out to four-point lead, 70-66 with 3:30 to play.

The Tigers scored the next three points all from the free throw line. Cumberland got one back from the line to make it a two point game. A layup from Jace Wallace tied it at 71-71 with 2:20 to play.

One free throw from Milburn gave Campbellsville their first lead since the first half and they extended it with an and-one from Milburn to lead 75-71 with 1:01 left.

Cumberland with a sense of urgency got a quick two from Robinson before taking a timeout down by a bucket with 44 seconds.

The Phoenix got the stop they needed with 16 seconds to play and went down the floor before a foul to Robinson sent him to the line for a chance to tie it with five seconds left. Robinson missed both and immediately fouled on the rebound. With a chance to ice the game, Milburn then missed both giving Cumberland one crack at a tie or the win with 0.8 seconds left.

The Phoenix had an inbound play from their sideline and threw it in to Jaheim Berry for a chance at the win, but his three hit the side of the rim and fell giving Campbellsville the win, 75-73.

Cumberland will be back at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena on Thursday to host Lindsey Wilson.
