No. 3 Campbellsville Pulls Away in Third Quarter for 70-49 Victory

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.-- Despite the game being within two possessions at the top of the third quarter, the 3rd ranked Campbellsville Tigers forced lethal turnovers late in the game to pull away.
Cumberland falls to .400 with the loss at an 8-12 overall, 1-6 conference record. 
The decisive factor in this match was the turnovers, with Cumberland giving up a total of 32. 
The Phoenix shot 36.7% from the field compared to Campbellsville's 43.6%. Cumberland outrebounded the Tigers 36-31.
Lindsey Freeman had a solid performance, digging the Phoenix out of holes on multiple occasions to lead all players with 21 points and nine boards. Freeman was the only Phoenix to hit double-figures, MJ Eubanks being the next highest scorer with six. 
Campbellsville's offense was fairly balanced with three players landing in the double-digit scoring category. Kayla Luebbe led her team with 15, while Maddie Boyle chipped in 13.
The Tigers asserted their dominance early on, initiating the game with a steal that seamlessly translated into a three-pointer. Despite the initial setback, the Phoenix quickly leveled the score at 5-5 with an eight-foot jumper by Freeman and a three-pointer from Swafford.
Cumberland momentarily seized the lead with another successful triple, only to face a daunting response from the Tigers, who closed the first quarter with a 9-0 run. 
Campbellsville extended their advantage at the start of the second quarter, capitalizing on back-to-back fouls and converting two from the charity stripe to establish a nine-point lead.
Cumberland put in a strong effort to recover, with Lindsey Freeman making important layups and free throws to keep the Tigers close. A jumper from Jana Claire Swafford brought the gap down to three points, but the Tigers regained control with a 7-1 run just before halftime.
Turnovers and steals shaped the flow of the game in the third quarter as it unfolded as a defensive battle. of the defense. Despite Cumberland posting their highest point total in the quarter (15 as a team), they also conceded 10 turnovers, providing the Tigers with additional opportunities.
A series of well-executed jumpers, coupled with a powerful layup from Gordon, brought Cumberland within two possessions at the 6:52 mark. However, the Phoenix struggled to maintain their momentum in the final five minutes against Campbellsville's unrelenting defense.
Cumberland faced an uphill battle of 16 points as they headed into the final quarter.
The Tigers maintained pressure, starting the fourth quarter on an 13-0 run as turnovers continued to haunt Cumberland's potential.
Cumberland landed their first bucket of the quarter with a fastbreak steal and jumper from Freeman. Despite securing the next two points, Cumberland was challenged with a ticking clock and a 25-point deficit. 
Campbellsville sealed their victory with a decisive three-pointer for a 70-49 final.
The Phoenix will be at home for their next two matches, starting a 5:30 PM matchup with Lindsey Wilson on February 8. Cumberland will then have a week to prepare for another top-25 game against No. 20 Freed-Hardeman on February 15.
