NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Cumberland Men's Tennis opened up the 2024 spring campaign with a tough match against NCAA opponent Lipscomb at Ensworth.

The doubles competition started the match off with Lipscomb taking control early on. In the #1 Doubles, Adrijan Hrzic and Elisey Kalashikov faced tough resistance from Sebastian Dominguez and Krzysztof Wetoszka, ultimately succumbing to a 2-6 defeat. The #2 Doubles saw Vitor Ferreira and German Suarez facing Matheus Lima and Juan Lombisano of Lipscomb, resulting in another 2-6 victory for the Lipscomb duo. The #3 Doubles was a hard-fought contest, with Cumberland's Julian Parada and Daniel Wessels displaying resilience. However, Carlos Salas Tulla and Henrique Ushizima secured a 7-6(3) win.

Moving on to the singles matches, Lipscomb continued their strong performance. At No. 1, Daniel Wessels faced a formidable opponent in Krzysztof Wetoszka, who secured a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory. Elisey Kalashikov fought valiantly at No. 2, but ultimately fell to Sebastian Dominguez with a score of 1-6, 1-6. Lipscomb's dominance extended to the No. 3Singles, where Vitor Ferreira was defeated by Henrique Ushizima, 3-6, 4-6.

Despite Cumberland's efforts, Lipscomb secured victories at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles as well, with Adrijan Hrzic, Julian Parada, and Jackson Vaughan facing tough opposition from Matheus Lima, Juan Lombisano, and Carlos Salas Tulla, respectively.

While Cumberland faced a challenging opener which will benefit the team down the stretch as they have a tough schedule ahead. The Phoenix will take on Sewanee and Tennessee Southern next Saturday at Sewanee.
