Phoenix Miscues help 6th-Ranked Patriots Take First Two Games of the Series

LEBANON, Tenn.--6th-Ranked Cumberlands capitalizes on Cumberland miscues to sweep day one of the conference series, 10-0 and 15-8.

Game one was on to forget for the Phoenix as the Patriots shut out Cumberland on 10-0 run rule. The Phoenix mustered just four hits and had four errors to go along with that.

The Patriots scored in the first after Amber Gainer reached on an error. She came around to score on a groundout for the early lead.

Cumberlands loaded the bases in the second and Carly Olier hit a sac fly to score the first run of the inning. The second run came on a single from Amber Gainer to third and the last run came across after an error in the field for a 4-0 lead.

Cumberland was on the verge of their first scoreless inning with two outs, but a two out single from Aniya White plated a run. Kaysee Dale then reached on an error and Oliver singled home White. Gainer belted a three-run homer to make it 9-0.

The Patriots added a run in the fourth on a pinch hit single for Alyssa Gent to get the 10-0 run rule.

Kaitlin Higgins suffered the loss. Higgins threw all five innings giving up 11 hits and 10 runs, just four of those runs were earned. Talli Burgess got the win for the Patriots throwing four innings allowing four hits and striking out five.

In game two, the Phoenix responded early as they struck in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI double from Kenzie France

In the third, Oliver blasted a two-run home run to right center to get the Patriots going. Mackenzie Keats doubled in a run, Amber Atkins singled home Keatts, and Emily Bryant hit a double off the wall to score Atkins for a 5-2 lead.

Cumberland responded in the bottom half. Ashley Evans reach on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. France then roped her second double of the game to score Evans. Later with runners on the corners, Jacey Hatfield stole second and the throw from the catcher wound up in center to allow France to score for a 5-4 Patriots lead.

The Patriots pushed across two more in the fourth as Jade Gainer hit an RBI-single and Keats reached on an error that plated a run for a 7-4 score.

Cumberland worked a two-out rally in the fourth. Lay drew a walk and Evans beat out an infield single. Abby Chappell belted a home run to left field to tie the game at 7-7.

The last three innings it was all Patriots as they scored four in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two in the seventh.
