Briar Cliff spoils Krump's Three Home Run Game with Comeback Victory

LEBANON, Tenn.--Briar Cliff spoils Ian Krump's three home run game with a late comeback win to beat the Phoenix 9-8 and snap Cumberland's 12-game win streak.

Cumberland (14-8) bopped five home runs in the game, three from Krump. Dee Triplett hit his second home run of the series and Riley Light jacked a solo shot to make up the majority of the Phoenix's run production.

Cumberland got a great outing from Dylan Berry throwing six strong innings. Berry gave up five hits and allowed two runs while striking out eight and walking one. Berry was in line for the win when he came out, but a conglomerate of things lead to the Chargers come-from-behind win.

Krump got the scoring started for Cumberland belting a solo shot to left field to get the bats going. Toshiki Kuriya drew a base on balls and Tim Holyk hit a double to right field to set up a three-run home run from Dee Triplett to left field and give Cumberland a 4-0 lead.

The Chargers got two runs back in the fourth as Jared Sitzman hit a two-run home run to right field to cut it to 4-2, but the Phoenix jumped right back in the bottom half. Krump hit his second home run of the day, a no-doubter to left center. The Phoenix loaded he bases after and were able to push across one a single from Triplett to push it back to four runs at 6-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Riley Light belted a home run to center field, his sixth home run of the season and pushing the Phoenix lead out to 7-2.

The game stayed at 7-2 until the eighth inning. Pinch hitter Cam Riemer hit a two-run home run to left field to ignite the Briar Cliff side. With two outs and a runner on first, a slow roller was hit to Seth Sweet-Chick at second base. Sweet-Chick tossed it to first for the out, but the call on the field was that it pulled Triplett off the base. After the call, Briar Cliff would score two more after an error in left field and plated the tying run on a single through the left side from Matthew Hmielewski to tie the game at 7-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, Krump led off the inning with his third home run of the game, a go-ahead shot to right field to give the Phoenix a 8-7 advantage.

With Bracken Rice on the mound in the ninth, the Chargers would use clutch two-out hitting to plate the tying run on an Easton Cone single to center. The go-ahead run came across on a Damon Schmid double to right center.

The Phoenix got Preston Welchel on base in the bottom of the ninth, but Briar Cliff induced a game-ending double play to end the win streak.

Cumberland will be back at home on Tuesday against Milligan with a single-game at 2:00 p.m.
