RV Freed-Hardeman Sweeps Cumberland Softball in Regular Season Finale

LEBANON, Tenn.-- Cumberland softball concluded their regular season with a pair of losses against RV Freed-Hardeman. The Lions completed a series sweep, clinching wins of 8-1 and 9-5.

The top of the first inning hinted at a competitive matchup in game one, with Freed-Hardeman's Karli Quillin kicking off the scoring drive with a single through the right side. However, Cumberland's defense managed to limit the damage, keeping the Lions at bay.

The game remained close until the top of the fourth inning, where Freed-Hardeman unleashed an offensive onslaught, scoring five runs. Chloe Carter's single to left center initiated the Lions' charge, followed by a series of hits that gave them a comfortable lead.

Despite Cumberland's efforts to rally in the bottom of the fifth inning, highlighted by Abby Chappell's sacrifice and stolen bases by Anna Lay and Ashley Evans, they could only manage to score one run.

The Lions sealed their victory in the top of the seventh inning, adding two more runs to their tally to secure an 8-1 win.

The Phoenix had a solid start to game two, responding quickly to Freed's opening three runs. Chappell's sacrifice fly and Jacey Hatfield's RBI single helped Cumberland close the gap after Freed-Hardeman's early lead, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of the Lions.

As the game progressed, Cumberland gained momentum, taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Abby Peach's leadoff solo home run ignited Cumberland's offense, propelling them ahead with a score of 4-3.

Cumberland's momentum continued into the bottom of the fifth inning, where they further extended their lead. Chappell's clutch hit and Hatfield's RBI contributed to Cumberland's offensive surge, giving them a 5-3 advantage over Freed-Hardeman.

However, Freed-Hardeman quickly responded in the top of the sixth inning, reclaiming the lead with four runs on five hits.

In the top of the seventh, the Lions added two more runs, extending their lead. Cumberland couldn't muster a response in their final at-bat, closing the series and the regular season with a 9-5 score.
