Fall Student-Athletes Kick-Off New Year with Leadership Day

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland fall student-athletes start off the year with the annual Cumberland University Leadership Day.

Leadership Day starts in a large group format as speakers circulate between different sessions like how to be successful in college, servant leadership, safety, and more. The day is used to help acclimate to the life of a college athlete for freshmen or readjust for returners while also spreading our theme for the year which is GRIT (Growth, Resiliency, Integrity, and Tenacity).

After completing all the sessions, the teams split up, heading out to display servant leadership through community service. The speakers today include Vice President for Athletics Ron Pavan, Immanuel Baptist Church Connections Pastor Darrin Reynolds, Minister at 109 Church of Christ Matt Miller, Lindsay Williamson from Drug Free WilCo., Assistant Athletic Director Dr. Katie Arnold, Head Athletic Trainers Tyler Bennett and Alex Page, and Director of Sports Performance Gunnar Helland.

The teams that went through the Fall Leadership Day includes football, men's and women's soccer, cheer and dance, and women's volleyball.

The Cumberland Winter/Spring sports will have their own Leadership Day in August.
