Women's Soccer Makes Early Season Statement

LEBANON, Tenn.--10th-ranked Women's Soccer had a a statement win over No. 13 Truett-McConnell showing their prowess with a 7-1 victory at Lindsey Donnell Stadium on Tuesday. 

Cumberland (3-0-0) controlled the pace of the game from the opening kick. CU had possession of the ball for the majority of the match, dominating the control. Cumberland posted 27 shots with 17 on goal. The Phoenix had five different goal scorers led by a pair of goals from Seika Ikezoe and Kadisha Martina. Ella Tuplin, Gabby Jones, and Itziar Garcia posted the other two goals. The Phoenix added six assists in the match from Zoe Collyer, Grace Morris, Ao Yamada, Jones, Emelly Chicas, and Uxia Varela

The Phoenix didn't just make a statement on the offensive end, but held the Bears to just three shots with two on goal. Hannah Thornellhad to make just one save in 90 minutes while she added one goal. 

Seika Ikezoe opened up today's match strongly with her third goal of the season propelling a CU take-off in the early minutes of the first half.

Two minutes later Gabby Jones scored her third goal of the season being assisted by Grace Morris.

Newcomer, Kadisha Martina also had a great debut kicking off her first game of the season for the Phoenix with a goal in minute 16 which was assisted across the middle by Gabby Jones

The first goal of the second half came from Seika Ikezoe, she scored her second goal of the day on a penalty kick and it was her fourth on the season. Ikezoe secured her second brace of the year through three games. 

Kadisha Martina also secured a brace in her first game as a Phoenix scoring in the 57th minute which was assisted by Zoe Collyer through the middle making the score 5-0.

Two minutes later, Ella Tuplin added another goal to make it 6-0 for the Phoenix. Tuplin was assisted by Emelly Chicas and Ao Yamada

In the 67th minute the Bears of Truett McConnell grabbed a late goal by Amayia Lukie which was assisted by Eliska Dvorakova.

The final goal of the day went to Itziar Garcia in the last minute of the game in a bang-bang play right at the goal which was assisted by Uxia Varela to finish the game.

Cumberland will play next on the road at RV Olivet Nazarene. The match for this Saturday will be the night cap and kick off at 7:00 p.m.
