LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Wrestling Team took down their conference foes Lindsey WIlson in dramatic fashion, dropping the first two matches of the night before they went on a run to win the dual 31-18.

Truth Vesey started out fast against Lindsey Wilson with three quick points from an escape and taking riding time but his opponent quickly jumped ahead with a takedown and reversal followed by another takedown. Vesey could not catch back up in the first bout of the night and the 20th ranked Chase Ayers defeated him by major decision.Â
At 133,
Aslan Nadeau and Alex Tabor had a very quick match with Tabor pinning Nadeau in the first minute of the match, pulling the Blue Raiders ahead 10-0.
Sammy Shires started very fast against his opponent with two takedowns in the first 30 seconds to take a 6-2 lead, with his opponents two points coming from escapes both times. Shires recorded another takedown and his opponent did as well making the score 9-4 for the Phoenix. Another escape by Drake Montelongo decreased the deficit at 9-5, but Shires ultimately took the win 12-8 to get the Phoenix on the board.
At 149,
Victor Guzman and Adrian Ayala had the highest ranked match of the night pitting the no.14 ranked Phoenix versus the no. 12 Blue Raiders. Like most of the night the match started blazing fast as Guzman secured a quick takedown to go ahead 3-0. Another takedown brought Guzman to a 6-1 which he would never look back on. Guzman dominated the last minute and pinned his opponent while the score sat at 14-2.
At 157, Ellis Otting and Nick Hejke started slow but Otting bounced back and secured two takedowns and riding time for a 7-0 win after a pin.
At 165,
Eli Clemmons and Brandon Irogoyen. Clemmons got the fast takedown and started quickly at 3-0. Clemmons recorded another takedown to extend his lead 6-0. Clemmons recorded an escape and another takedown to dominate the match at 10-0. Clemmons secured the Technical Fall after a series of takedowns and reversals to secure the win 19-2.Â
Cameron Nesbitt looked to keep the momentum alive for the Phoenix at 174. Nesbitt and his opponent Will George started slow until the second period reset when George got an escape point. And George came away with the win 2-0.Â
Rocco Horvath and Jostyn Zayas started fast in 184 with Horvath securing four takedowns and riding time and then securing the pin to dominate the match. Cumberland advanced to a 25-13 team point lead.Â
Tyler Rowland and Hunter Lehrke started fast and stalling at the same time with Rowland executing two takedowns fast to jump to a 6-0 lead. Rowland quickly secured the three second near fall and then pinned Lehrke to secure the victory and extend the team lead 31-13.Â
Evan Dixon and Tony Rogers stalled for most of the match in the 285 division until Rogers secured the takedown for a 3-0 lead. Rogers secured a quick four second near fall and a takedown to jump ahead 10-0. Dixon was never able to recover and dropped the final match of the night.
The Phoenix will be back in action against their highest ranked opponent this season, the #5 team in the nation, University of the Cumberlands.The dual is scheduled for Monday, January 20th at 6 PM in Williamsburg.
