Men's Basketball Improves to 2-0 in Conference Play After Road Win Against Campbellsville

LEBANON, TENN. – Cumberland Men's Basketball Improves to 2-0 in Conference Play.

Cumberland had four Phoenix scoring in double digits after a rough start in Campbellsville, Ky. Jalin Anglin led the way with 21 points, 50% from the field and 100% from the free throw line. 

Demarius Boyd recorded 20 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Boyd also finished the night shooting 8-15 from the field and 100% from the free throw line. 

Triston Conger had another great night with 13 points, seven steals, and seven rebounds shooting seven for seven from the free throw line. 

Khi Wallace finished the night with 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Wallace shot six for 11 from the field.

The Phoenix got off to a slow start while Campbellsville got hot, hitting multiple threes in the first couple minutes of the game. Jalin Anglin recorded the first nine points of the game for the Phoenix in the first eight minutes of the game.

Campbellsville led by as much as 16 points in the first half. The Phoenix fought back and brought it back within seven after a three ball from Demarius Boyd sparked the Phoenix offense back into gear. 

CU finished out the first half on another small run that was led by a Triston Conger steal and made a layup. Jalin Anglin led the Phoenix in the first half with 11 points and was closely followed by Boyd who recorded nine. 

The Phoenix shot 34% from the field and shot a perfect seven for seven at the free throw line. Cumberland attempted ten from beyond the arc and only made two of those. 

CU jumped out aggressively in the beginning of the second half erasing the deficit of Campbellsville's lead. Khi Wallace with another monstrous slam and finishing another three sets of free throws to be a perfect ten-for-ten and a nine to nothing run brings the Phoenix within one point. 

After a series of back and forth, Wallace with another one handed slam to tie the game after not leading the whole game. Nick Brunetti secured the first lead after a rebound and quick outlet down the floor from Demarius Boyd. The Phoenix leads by five after more quick outlet passes down the floor and gutsy finishes by Boyd and Brunetti. 

The Phoenix led by seven with another offensive position and Boyd hit a dagger three ball to silence the gym and take a ten point lead for the Phoenix and their largest lead of the night. 

With two minutes remaining the Phoenix and the Tigers both traded possessions and points and the Tigers brought it back within two points at 64-62 with Cumberland leading the game. Conger made a good move under the basket and scored the take the lead by four points. 

After Conger picked up his fourth foul, the Tigers knocked down both free throws and brought it back within two points. Conger immediately went down the floor and drew a foul and knocked down both of his free throws. 

A huge defensive play by Keshawn Robinson gave the ball back to the Phoenix with under 15 seconds left and also got another set of free throws for Anglin to make the score 74-65. 

Robinson finishes the game off with a steal and fastbreak turned into a one handed slam. The Phoenix finished the game winning 76-65 after trailing at one point in the game by as much as 16 points.
