Dinh Earns a Spot on Podium at Missouri Valley Invite

MARSHALL, Mo.--Jared Dinh finishes in fourth place to close out the Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall on Saturday.

Jared Dinh had a standout performance at 141 pounds, finishing 4th with an 8-2 record and 19.5 team points. He started the day strong, pinning Shane Watson of Campbellsville (Ky.) in 2:36. In Round 5, he earned a 10-4 decision over Kavika Aholelei of Dickinson State (N.D.), followed by a dominant 12-0 major decision against Garrett Pace of Reinhardt University (Ga.) in Round 6.

Dinh continued his impressive run with a thrilling sudden-victory win over Eli Peyton of Cumberlands (Ky.), 4-1, before securing a 4-0 decision over #6 Thomas Williams of St. Thomas University in the consolation Semifinals. His tournament ended in the third-place match, where he was defeated 4-1 by Tony Mendoza of Grand View (Iowa). Despite the loss, Dinh's performance earned him a well-deserved 4th-place finish.

At 125 pounds, Ellis Haney finished with a 2-2 record and scored 4.5 team points. Haney won his first match of the day, defeating Trevor Hisey of Indiana Tech 18-12, but was then defeated by Michael Chagnon of St. Ambrose University in a 13-2 major decision.

Truth Vesey also wrestled at 125 pounds, ending the day with a 4-2 record and 8.5 team points. Vesey began his day with a forfeit victory over Dante Rigal of Briar Cliff (Iowa), followed by an 18-2 tech fall win over Amari Harden of Campbellsville (Ky.). Vesey's day ended with a tough 19-6 major decision loss to Saoul Prado of Baker (Kan.).

At 133 pounds, Justin Bradford posted a 2-2 record and scored 5.5 team points. His competition included a close 8-7 decision loss to Wyatt Hinton of Campbellsville (Ky.) in his final match of the day.

Ethan Gomez, wrestling at 165 pounds, finished with a 3-2 record and 3.5 team points. He won his first match of the day by major decision, defeating Hunter Song of Missouri Baptist 17-6, but ended his day with a loss to Blaze Sumiye of Providence (Mont.) in a 5-2 decision.

Also at 165 pounds, Eli Clemmons finished with a 3-2 record and scored 5.0 team points. Clemmons lost a tough sudden victory match to Travis Waldner (Montana State-Northern), and was later pinned by Bridger Hall (Providence, Mont.).

At 174 pounds, both Cameron Nesbitt and Anthony Pyron finished the day with 2-2 and 3-2 records, respectively. Nesbitt lost his final match of the day to Jordan Lomeli (Oklahoma City) by a decision score of 11-9. Pyron scored a victory over Kaleb Bigelow (Dakota Wesleyan) before winning by injury default over Sean Houston (Brewton-Parker). However, Pyron's day ended with a 12-9 decision loss to Braden Anderson of Grand View.

Tyler Rowland at 197 pounds also finished with a 3-2 record and 4.0 team points. He won his first two matches, defeating Clay Guenin (Marian University) 8-1 and pinning John Schuttler (Graceland University) in 1:57, but was ultimately defeated 12-4 by Donivan Giangregorio of Dickinson State.

At heavyweight, Erick Willock struggled to finish the day with a 1-2 record and 2.0 team points. He was defeated 11-0 in a major decision by Ty Cobb of Lourdes University in his final match of the day.

The Phoenix will return to dual action next Friday as the Phoenix welcome No. 10 Campbellsville to the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
