WICHITA, Kan. — Victor Guzman has punched his ticket to the 149-pound NAIA National Championship match and will square off against No. 2 seed Elijah Larsen of Grand View tonight.
Guzman, the No. 5 seed, has been dominant throughout the tournament. He opened with a pinfall victory before recording a technical fall over No. 12 Caden Eggleston (Morningside) to move into the quarterfinals.
In the quarters, Guzman earned a hard-fought decision over No. 4 seed Elvis Solis (Life) before securing his spot in the national title bout with a commanding 9-1 major decision over No. 8 seed Carlos Stanton (Arizona Christian) in the semifinals.
The graduate standout now faces a familiar foe in Larsen, the defending NAIA National Champion. The two met at last year's national tournament, where Larsen earned a 10-2 major decision in the quarterfinals.
Larsen advanced to the finals with a dominant run of his own, collecting a pinfall in the opening round followed by back-to-back technical falls. In the semifinals, he rallied past No. 3 seed Nik Yancey (Campbellsville), scoring a dramatic last-second four-point near fall to secure a 10-7 victory and advance to the championship match.
The NAIA National Championship match is set for 7:00 p.m. tonight and will be broadcast live on the Urban Edge Network.
