Wrestling Falls Against Campbellsville in a Close One

LEBANON, Tenn. – Wrestling falls against Campbellsville in a Close One

Many Phoenix wrestled up in their weight divisions tonight for Cumberland including: Elijah Griffin at 157, Anthony Pyron at 184, Rocco Horvath at 197, and Tyler Rowland at 285.

Bentley Ellison started the night for the Phoenix at 125 with a quick takedown to jump ahead. Ellison recorded an escape and another four takedowns to extend his lead and to take the victory 16-2 by technical fall.

Justin Bradford at 133 started slow but at the end of period one he landed a monster takedown to lead 3-0. His opponent recorded an escape at the start of period two and the score stayed 3-1 until period three. Bradford recorded an escape and then his opponent recorded another takedown to tie it at 4-4 to extend the match to overtime. His opponent took the victory in overtime after a quick takedown with the score ending 7-4.

At 141, Sammy Shires continued to impress at the end of period one with a takedown and a four second near fall to extend his lead to 7-0. His opponent scored an escape late in the second period to make the score 7-1. Shires secured the near fall and his opponent managed an escape earlier in the round to give Shires the lead 11-5. Shires took the victory after a major decision winning 13-5.

Victor Guzman coming in at 149 started slow but after both wrestlers recorded an escape, in the third period the score remained at 1-1. In overtime, Guzman landed a monstrous slam and takedown to take the victory 4-1 with the Phoenix leading in team points 12-3. Guzman defeats the No. 1 wrestler in 149.

Wrestling at 157, Elijah Griffin landed the early takedown and the early 3-0 lead. Griffin then escaped a takedown to extend his lead to 4-0. Griffin battled until he landed another takedown and an escape to enlarge the lead to 8-0. Griffin scored a reversal late in the third period and was also taken down by his opponent which ended in an 11-5 victory by decision for Griffin.

At 165, Ethan Gomez started with an escape and then was taken down by his opponent who jumped to a 3-1 lead. Jason Kubwiman for Campbellsville landed another take down and was rewarded riding time to jump to a 7-1 lead. Gomez recorded another escape but was taken down again not long after and his opponent jumped to a 10-3 lead. His opponent ran away with it in the third period and won by Technical Fall at 15-3.

Cameron Nesbitt at 174 started aggressive but his opponent was rewarded a reversal, escape and a takedown to jump to a 7-0 lead early. Late in the second period his opponent, Shad Slone recorded a couple takedowns and a near fall to secure the victory at 15-0. Slone brough the Tigers to a two point deficit in the team points.

At 184, Anthony Pyron started very aggressive and kept the score 0-0 until he was taken down to extend his opponents lead 3-0. His opponent was rewarded with riding time and an escape to secure the victory by decision at 5-1.

At 197, Rocco Horvath started strong with a quick takedown and battled back and forth to secure two points for riding time to make the score 5-0. His opponent Joel Hatchett landed a reversal to erase the deficit to 5-4 but Horvath finished with the victory by decision.

At 285, Tyler Rowland started well but his opponent took the first points with an early takedown but his opponent won by pin fall.
