Collins' Goal With Four Seconds Left Rescues Point for Phoenix

COLUMBIA, Ky. - - The Cumberland women's soccer team hit the road for their second conference matchup, taking on the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders.

Linsdey has taken on a number of strong sides and despite their record, tonight's game was always going to be a tough draw at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Playing on their home turf, the Blue Raiders put one in the back of the net just seven minutes into the game, but the Phoenix quickly answered with a goal of their own in just two minutes.

Kadisha Martina took a ball off a Blue Raider defender and turned to play a chipped pass to Victoria Collins who took a beautiful shot off one touch to make it 1-1. Flipping the momentum so quickly to their side, Cumberland managed to pull another one back for the lead in the 24th minute.

Seika Stull won a corner kick for the Phoenix and her delivery bounced and ricocheted off a host of players before Olga Wallemo ultimately turned and shot, putting CU back in the driver's seat. That 2-1 lead carried all the way into the half, though both sides had plenty of gas left in the tank for the second 45.

Cumberland held the lead for the first 20 minutes of the second half, looking comfortable as Lindsey Wilson had to chase the game-tying goal, which they would find in the 74th. Drawing a penalty from a handball in the box, the Blue Raiders converted to make it 2-2, before then pulling ahead in the 80th.

It looked like all hope could be lost but Victoria Collins had the heroic last shot of the game. Niamh Warrender delivered a last-ditch long ball up the field which was flicked on by a Lindsey defender, finding the feet of the Nigerian who leveled the game at 3-3 with just four seconds left to play.

By the end of regulation the Blue Raiders led the Phoenix in shots on goal but the Lebanon side had more shots on goal. With the spoils shared in the game, Cumberland now shifts to 1-0-1 in conference action, while Lindsey is now 2-0-1.

The Phoenix will now wait for Life University to come to Lebanon after their non-conference matchup was rained out this past week.
