LEBANON, Tenn. – Despite creating a number of dangerous chances, Cumberland fell 3-1 to No. 14 ranked Life University Tuesday afternoon at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

The Phoenix found themselves in an early hole after Life scored just five minutes in and doubled the lead midway through the first half. Cumberland began to settle in from there, matching the Running Eagles in both tempo and possession over the final 45 minutes.

The second half was marred by an hour rain delay, but Uxia Varela was able to pull one back for CU in the 78th minute, finishing a pass from Kadisha Martina to make it 3–1. The Phoenix pressed late, with Martina and Victoria Collins each forcing saves in the closing minutes, but couldn't cut the deficit further.

Celia Martin did her part to keep the Phoenix in it as she recorded nine saves in goal, while Cumberland finished with 20 total shots and 10 on frame, their highest total in four games.

Cumberland moves to 8-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Mid-South Conference play. The Phoenix will return to action this Friday when they head to McKenzie to take on Bethel (Tenn.).
