Women's Soccer Honors Seniors with 7-0 Win over Freed-Hardeman

LEBANON, Tenn.--It was a special afternoon at Lindsey Donnell Stadium as the Cumberland women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day by honoring seven seniors before dominating Freed-Hardeman in a 7-0 victory on Tuesday.

The Phoenix (10-3-1, 3-0-1 MSC) put together one of their most complete performances of the season, outshooting the Lions 46-5 and posting their ninth shutout of the year. With the win, Cumberland is tied with Lindsey Wilson at the top of the standings in first place with 10 points.

Cumberland controlled possession from the opening whistle, creating chance after chance in the first half. The Phoenix took 19 shots in the opening 45 minutes and broke through in the 17th minute when Kadisha Martina found the back of the net off a cross from Seika Stull. Martina struck again in the 34th minute, finishing a setup from Uxia Varela and Stull to double the lead. Just before halftime, Varela added her own goal in the 42nd minute to send CU into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Phoenix continued their relentless attack in the second half. Aoi Kanno opened the scoring in the 53rd minute off a pass from Martina, marking her first goal of the afternoon. Five minutes later, Olga Wallemo buried a shot to extend the lead to 5-0. Varela earned her second goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 69th minute before assisting Victoria Collins in the 76th to close out the scoring.

Martina led the way with two goals and one assist, while Varela tallied two goals and two assists in another standout performance. Stull added a pair of assists, and Collins, Wallemo, and Kanno each scored once. The Phoenix defense was equally dominant, limiting the Lions to just two shots on goal, both saved in the second half by Cieara Johnson to secure the clean sheet alongside Celia Martin, who played the opening half in goal.

Cumberland finished with 23 shots on target and 13 corner kicks while committing just eight fouls.

The Phoenix return to action next Monday as they continue Mid-South Conference play at home against Georgetown, looking to build on their two-match unbeaten streak.
