Volleyball Sweeps Season Series with Road Win at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky.--Cumberland volleyball wrapped up the regular season with a dominant straight-set win Tuesday night, defeating Georgetown 24-19, 25-23, 25-13 at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The victory secured the season sweep over the Tigers, as the Phoenix continued their late-season momentum with a strong all-around performance.

The Phoenix tallied 45 kills, five aces, 54 digs, and nine assists in the win. Leading the way was senior middle blocker Hazel Konkel, who hit .333 with eight kills and a block assist. Lila Cade was sharp on both sides with eight kills, 12 digs, and a service ace, while Jacey Hubbell added nine kills and a block assist. Hailey Jones was highly efficient, posting seven kills on a .429 hitting clip.

Emma Carter directed the offense with 25 assists, 10 digs, and an ace, while Carlee Rogers contributed 11 assists and six digs. Morgan Snead led the back row with 10 digs and an ace, and Kaleigh Glass added nine digs and three assists to round out a balanced defensive effort.

Georgetown finished with 25 kills and five aces in the loss. Giara Ferrari led the Tigers with seven kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Mallori Dunn-Martin added five kills, two aces, and 10 digs. Setter Faith Miller dished out 11 assists with six digs, and libero Abby Walker posted nine digs and an ace.Cumberland (24-11, 6-4 MSC) was efficient offensively, hitting .275 as a team while holding Georgetown (3-19, 0-10 MSC) to just a .068 clip.

 The Phoenix opened the match sharp, hitting .343 in the first set with 14 kills to take a quick 1-0 lead. Despite a brief rally from the Tigers, Cumberland's consistency at the net and in serve receive kept the edge, finishing the frame 25-19.

The second set was the most competitive of the night, featuring seven ties and two lead changes. Georgetown found a spark from the service line with three aces, but the Phoenix attack proved too steady, recording another 14 kills at a .200 mark. Cumberland held a 23-17 lead when the Tigers made a run to make it interesting, but the Phoenix closed it out 25-23.
 
Cumberland closed the door in the third, jumping out early and never looking back. The Phoenix hit .282 with 17 kills while limiting Georgetown to just three kills and six errors in the frame. 

Cumberland now gets ready to take on No. 10 Cumberlands on Saturday in Williamsburg.
