Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets at the Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.--Cumberland volleyball fell in straight sets to undefeated No. 10 Cumberlands, 25-12, 25-13, 25-15.

The Phoenix (24-12, 6-5 MSC) struggled to find rhythm against the Patriots' balanced attack and relentless defense. Cumberland hit -.018 for the match, recording 22 kills and 24 errors on 111 attempts, while Cumberlands posted 37 kills on a .255 clip and controlled play at the net with nine total blocks.

In the opening set, the Patriots set the tone early, hitting .414 with 12 kills and no errors while holding Cumberland to eight kills on 37 swings. The Phoenix were unable to recover from an early deficit as Cumberlands cruised to a 25-12 win.

The second set was more competitive to start, but the Patriots' serving and blocking made the difference. Cumberlands registered 15 kills and three blocks in the frame, while Cumberland managed six kills and two service aces before the Patriots pulled away 25-13.

Cumberland battled hard in the third, forcing multiple long rallies, but Cumberlands' consistency proved too much down the stretch. The Phoenix hit -.025 in the set as the Patriots sealed the sweep 25-15 to remain unbeaten on the year.

The Phoenix were led by Lila Cade, who finished with seven kills and 13 digs. Hailey Jones, Jacey Hubbell, and Sydney Andrews each added three kills apiece, while Hazel Konkel chipped in two kills and two blocks. Carlee Rogers guided the offense with 18 assists and seven digs, and Morgan Snead paced the back row with 11 digs and a service ace.

Cumberlands (29-0, 10-0 MSC) was led by Sara Zampedri, who posted 11 kills, 12 digs, and four blocks. Kara Gipson added seven kills on .500 hitting with five block assists, while Savanah Jolly dished out 26 assists and recorded 15 digs. Brynnley Bryant and Alana Shiery chipped in five kills each as the Patriots extended their undefeated streak to 29 matches.

Cumberland will now look to finish off the regular season strong against Campbellsville at home on Friday. Senior festivities will take place following the match.
