Women's Volleyball Falls in Five on Senior Night

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland volleyball wrapped up the regular season Friday night in a five-set battle, falling 3-2 to Campbellsville inside the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena. With the loss, the Phoenix close the year at 24-13 overall and 6-6 in the Mid-South Conference, earning the No. 4 seed in next week's MSC Tournament.

Campbellsville edged the Phoenix by scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-12, using a strong serving performance to pull out the win. The Tigers posted 15 aces and 85 digs while limiting Cumberland to a .149 hitting percentage in the match.

Sophomore Lila Cade once again led the Phoenix with a match-high 19 kills and 23 digs, notching her 15th double-double of the season. Hazel Konkel was dominant at the net with seven kills and three blocks, while Jacey Hubbell added 10 kills and three blocks. Carlee Rogers paced the offense with 25 assists, and Emma Carter chipped in 17 assists, 11 digs, and three aces. Defensively, senior libero Morgan Snead anchored the back row with a team-best 26 digs.

Campbellsville jumped out to an early lead and held off a late Cumberland push to take the opener 25-22. The Phoenix struggled to find rhythm offensively early on, hitting .200 in the set, while the Tigers capitalized on several timely service aces to hold the advantage. Lila Cade led the attack with five kills, while Hazel Konkel and Jacey Hubbell each chipped in a pair of points at the net.

Cumberland answered back with a 25-21 win to even the match at one apiece. The Phoenix were sharp on both sides of the ball, hitting .275 as a team while holding Campbellsville under .130. Cade and Sydney Andrews combined for eight kills in the frame, and Emma Carter and Carlee Rogers distributed the ball well with 15 combined assists. Defensively, Morgan Snead steadied the back row with eight digs.

The third set was tight throughout, but Campbellsville used a pair of late service aces to edge Cumberland 25-23 and regain the match lead. The Phoenix battled back from an early deficit, tying the score multiple times behind the steady play of Cade and Rogers, but the Tigers' serve pressure proved to be the difference down the stretch.

Cumberland refused to go quietly, responding with a 25-19 victory to force a decisive fifth. The Phoenix defense was relentless, holding Campbellsville to a .000 hitting percentage in the set. Hubbell and Konkel combined for three blocks, while Cade and Hailey Jones tallied key kills to close out the frame strong.

In the deciding set, both teams traded points early before Campbellsville pulled away late to claim the match 15-12.

The Phoenix will head into the Mid-South Conference Tournament as the fourth seed, opening play next week with hopes of making a deep postseason run.
