Cumberland Wrestling Opens up 2025-26 Season at the Pepsi Patriot Open

CORBIN, Ky.--Cumberland wrestling opened its 2025-26 campaign with a competitive showing at the Pepsi Patriot Open hosted by the University of the Cumberlands, finishing 14th out of 30 teams with 97.5 total points in a deep field that featured several nationally ranked programs.

The team title went to Southeastern (Fla.), which dominated the field with 281 points behind several podium finishes. Montevallo placed second, producing three first-place finishers to total 230.5 points, while Campbellsville took third with 187.5 points. Marian followed closely in fourth at 186 points, and the host Cumberlands rounded out the top five with 161 points in a strong showing for Mid-South Conference programs.

Wyatt Howard (157 lbs) led the way for the Phoenix, earning five victories to pace the team in total wins and advance deep into his bracket. Anthony Pyron (174 lbs) followed closely with a strong 4-2 outing, while Tanner Willett (165 lbs) and Bobby Estrada (133 lbs) each finished 3-2 on the day.

Aslan Nadeau (141 lbs) and Blaise Meeks (165 lbs) each posted 2-1 records. Meanwhile, Chase Walker (125 lbs), Elijah Griffin (157 lbs), Ethan Gomez (165 lbs), Logan Brown (165 lbs), Jacob Barlow (165 lbs), and Logan Saller (165 lbs) all picked up a pair of wins to contribute team points.

Cumberland will return to the mat on November 15 at the Baron Duals.
