Two Falls and a Ranked Win Propel Walker to MSC Weekly Honor

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland freshman 125-pounder Chase Walker has been named the Mid-South Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Walker shined in his three bouts on Saturday, going 3-0 to help the No. 9 Phoenix sweep the event. The Cleveland, Tenn., native opened the day with a fall in 5:16 over West Virginia Tech's David Maxson before turning in the highlight performance of the weekend. Against 14th-ranked Connor Hueck of St. Thomas, Walker delivered his first career ranked victory, rolling to a 13-4 major decision. He capped his perfect outing with another pin, decking Brewton-Parker's Alarik Gibson in 2:19.

Walker now sits at 5-2 overall and 3-0 in duals this season as a key part of Cumberland's nationally ranked lineup.

The honor is the first of Walker's career and comes on the heels of a dominant performance at the Baron Duals.
