Men's Basketball Routed by No. 3 Georgetown on the Road

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Men's Basketball Routed on the Road by No. 3 Georgetown

Georgetown opened the game with a dunk to set the momentum. The Tigers went on a 21-6 point run. Gavin Stevens got out to a hot start for the Tigers with 12 points in the first eight minutes of the game. Khi Wallace for the Phoenix was called for two quick fouls early in the first half. Georgetown went on a 18-2 run to extend the lead to 36-10. CU went on a 8-0 run late in the 1st half but still trailed by 25. The Phoenix finished the first half trailing by 21 at a score of 51-30. 

Cumberland shot 10-38 from the field in the first half and 1-9 from the three point line. Jalin Anglin leads CU with nine points and is closely followed by Demarious Boyd who has seven points and six rebounds. Georgetown is shooting 54.3% from the field and 26% from the three point line. Gavin Stevens leads the charge for Tigers with 15 points shooting 5-9 from the field. 

Cumberland started the second half with the ball and missed a jumper and the Tigers of Georgetown went down the floor and opened up with a three ball. Georgetown jumped to a 30 point lead after a series of turnovers from the Phoenix. The Phoenix have tallied 15 turnovers half way through the second half. The offensive drought continued for Cumberland as Georgetown went on a 10-2 run that was sparked by a Tae Dozier dunk and extended the lead to 80-44. 

The Phoenix finished the day losing to the Tigers of Georgetown by a score of 99-66. Cumberland had four players score double-digits which includes Triston Conger with 11, Boyd with 14, Wallace with 11, and Jalin Anglin with 11. 

Cumberland shot 22-71 (31%) and 1-14 (7.1%) from beyond the arc. The Phoenix shot 21-34 (61.8%) from the free throw line. Cumberland played aggressive the whole second half but the Georgetown runs were too much to come back from. 

Georgetown shot 38-73 (52.1%) from the field with six players in double figures. 8-27 from beyond the arc. Trae Dozier finished with a double-double for the Tigers with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Gavin Stevens led the charge with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. 

Cumberland will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 6th at 7:30 PM in Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena and will take on the Wildcats of Bethel University.
