Cumberland Wrestling Finishes Third at MSC Championships; Dinh, Horvath, and Rowland Claim Titles

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.--Cumberland wrestling finishes in third place at the Mid-South Conference Championships with three wrestlers capturing individual titles and several others earning podium finishes.

Jared Dinh, Rocco Horvath, and Tyler Rowland each won the individual title for the weight class running the table. 

Dinh dominated the 141-pound bracket, winning four straight matches en route to the title. Dinh recorded a pin in just 52 seconds in his opening match and followed up with a tech fall victory in the quarterfinals. He then earned a major decision win (10-1) in the semifinals before securing the championship with a 4-0 decision over 18th-ranked Adrian Ayala (Lindsey Wilson).

Rocco Horvath won his second-consecutive Mid-South Conference title at 184. He continued Cumberland's success with a dominant 3-0 run to claim first place. Horvath won by tech fall in the quarterfinals, followed by an 11-8 decision in the semis. He captured the title with a 58-second pin of  seventh-ranked Thomas Ketchen-Carter from the Cumberlands, his second win over Ketchen-Carter this season.

At 197 pounds, Tyler Rowland went 2-0 to win the championship. He advanced with a bye, then secured a first-period pin in the semifinals. Rowland won the title with a narrow 4-3 decision over Joel Hatchett from Campbellsville. Rowland used a late takedown to push him past Hatchett in the third period. 

At 125 pounds, Truth Vesey placed fourth at 125 pounds, tallying eight team points. He opened with an 8-6 decision win over Clarence Lee Green (Lindsey Wilson) but was pinned in the semifinals. After advancing to the third-place match with a bye, Vesey fell in a 15-1 major decision. Ellis Haney finished in fifth place in the weight class, scoring six team points. Haney fell in the semifinals to Matteo Vargo of Cumberlands (Ky.) by decision (9-2) and dropped his consolation match by major decision (12-1). Haney secured fifth place via another bye.

At 149 pounds, Victor Guzman finished in second place with a 2-1 record, scoring 12.5 team points. He earned a tech fall win and a decision victory before losing a tough 4-2 decision in a rematch with Campbellsville's Nik Yancey in the finals. Elijah Griffin, also competing at 149 pounds, placed fifth with a 2-2 record. He secured his placement by pinning Chris Sperin (Midway) in the fifth-place match.

Ellis Otting took third at 157 pounds, finishing with a 3-2 record. Otting won his quarterfinal match by decision before being pinned in the semifinals. He rebounded with an 8-5 win in the consolation semis and clinched third place with a 3-2 decision over Kaleb Clark (Midway). Otting had a chance at second in the true second place match, but lost via tech fall. 

At 165 pounds, Eli Clemmons secured a runner-up finish, scoring 16 team points. Clemmons won his quarterfinal match by major decision and advanced to the finals with a sudden victory win (4-1). He fell in the championship bout by major decision (15-3) but secured second place via no contest. Ethan Gomez finished sixth at 165 pounds, pinning Jabril Williams (Midway) in the seventh place match. Gomez went on to win the true sixth place match with a 10-2 major decision over Mitchell Freeman from Rio Grande.

Cameron Nesbitt (174 lbs.) placed third, winning three matches and scoring 10.5 team points. He won his quarterfinal match before falling in the semifinals via tech fall. Nesbitt rebounded with a sudden victory in the consolation semis and took third with a 4-2 decision over teammate Anthony Pyron in the third place match. Pyron finished fourth at 174 pounds, winning two matches and scoring 11 team points.
