Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Defeats Campbellsville Holding them to One Conference Win

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Men's Basketball team took on Campbellsville in today's Mid-South contest and kept the Tiger's at just one conference win.

The Phoenix started the game on a seven point run, giving themselves a cushion that never truly felt in doubt. Starting the scoring Triston Conger and Keyshawn Robinson both combined to make up 11 of the first 16 points, setting themselves up for a big game.

Scoring did slow down though, as with just five minutes left on the clock it was a 28-18 game in favor of the Phoenix. Igniting a spark late in the half, Demarius Boyd and Riggs Abner hit back to back three pointers while the gap widened from 7 to 17 in a matter of minutes.

Campbellsville managed to find points whenever it looked like the Phoenix might pull away, keeping it from ever becoming a blowout, though Cumberland were firing on all cylinders. During that late run the Phoenix shot over 60% from the field, stretching the lead all the way to 19 at the break.

The Tigers started the second half with a 12-4 run against the Phoenix. Jalin Anglin set the tone with a tough basket made and a foul was called and he knocked down the free throw as well. The Phoenix played well down the stretch of the second half and never let off the breaks.

Josh Johnson had a big second half scoring nine points while shooting 100% from the field and beyond the arc. Cumberland went on several small runs to keep extending their lead and the Tigers of Campbellsville kept bringing it back but it was never enough.

The Phoenix ran away with the game until the last two minutes, and they cut the deficit in half but the Phoenix were too much and finished the win 83-72.

Cumberland shot 49.2% from the field and 30% from the three point line. The Phoenix shot 56.5% from the free throw line. Cumberland had five players in double digits and one player with over 20. Robinson had 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Anglin recorded 12 points and four rebounds.

Boyd was today's leading scorer with 24 points and he also recorded eight rebounds, a steal and two assists. Demarius Boyd scored his 1,000th point of his career in a Cumberland uniform at the 23 point mark of the game.
