Phoenix Toss Combined No-Hitter, Sweep Michigan-Dearborn

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland put together a dominant performance on Sunday, sweeping its doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn and running the win-streak to 10 games. The Phoenix capped the day with a historic moment, tossing a combined no-hitter in game two, the program's first since 2012, after securing a 5-2 win in the opener.

The Phoenix pitching staff stole the show in the second game, shutting down the Wolverines in a 15-0 rout. Marcelo Saldana started the no-hit effort, working three hitless innings with four strikeouts before turning it over to the bullpen. Lincoln Juarez (2-0) picked up the win with a perfect fourth, and Hunter Brown, Jaron Keyser, and Tanner Batts each tossed hitless innings to complete the combined no-hitter. It marked Cumberland's first no-hitter since Chipper Smith blanked Point Park on February 25, 2012.

Cumberland's offense wasted no time giving its pitchers run support. The Phoenix exploded for six runs in the first inning, capitalizing on early miscues and timely hitting. Drew Dalton-Akiwumi scored on a passed ball before Rafael Garcia delivered a two-run single through the left side. Daniel Schweitzer followed with an RBI double, and Cohl Proctor singled home another run. Aiden McDonald added a run-scoring hit to cap the big inning at 6-0.

The Phoenix poured it on with six more runs in the second. Wilser Then drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Garcia plated another on a groundout, and Proctor notched his second RBI single of the game. Dalton-Akiwumi drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 10-0, and Hunter Moser capped the frame with a two-run single to extend the lead to 12-0.

The Phoenix added some power in the third as Then and LaRue hit back-to-back home runs extending the lead to 14-0. Proctor added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring in the final run of the game.

Offensively, Cumberland racked up 14 hits, led by Moser, who went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. LaRue had a perfect 3-for-3 game with a homer, and Proctor finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Then added a homer and two runs scored, while Garcia drove in three runs.

In the opener, Cumberland took control early and never looked back, securing a 5-2 victory. The Phoenix plated three runs in the first inning as Dalton-Akiwumi walked and stole second before Hunter Moser drove him in with an RBI double. Moser later scored on a wild pitch, and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Garcia extended the lead to 3-0.

Michigan-Dearborn responded with two unearned runs in the second to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Cumberland added some breathing room in the fourth. McDonald delivered an RBI single to left, scoring Garcia, and later added another RBI in the sixth, grounding out to bring home Chris Meilan for the final margin.

Carter Rost (2-0) earned the win with a strong outing, allowing just two unearned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings while striking out five. Jake Green closed it out, recording the final five outs without allowing a hit to earn his first save of the season.

Cumberland will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Waleska, Georgia, to take on sixth-ranked Reinhardt.
