Baseball's 10-game Win-Streak Snapped by No. 6 Reinhardt

Box Score WALESKA, Ga.--Cumberland baseball has its 10-game win-streak come to an end as sixth-ranked Reinhardt run rules the Phoenix at Ken White Field on Tuesday.

Cumberland (15-4-1) jumped out to an early lead, but Reinhardt's offense erupted for 16 runs as the Phoenix dropped a 16-5 decision. Wilser Then and Toshiki Kuriya each collected three hits in the ball game, driving in a run a piece. Dylan LaRue belted a solo home run, but the Phoenix could not keep pace with the Eagles as Reinhardt bopped five home runs.

Jacob Mantooth picked up three hits for Reinhardt including two doubles and a home run. Nine-hole hitter Louis Dion bopped two home runs. Luca Boscarino and Barry Ryan Stephens each hit home runs.

Cumberland struck first in the opening inning when Wilser Then doubled to left center, scoring Preston Welchel. The Phoenix extended their lead in the second, with Rafael Garcia delivering an RBI double and Aiden McDonald adding a sacrifice fly to push the advantage to 3-0.

Reinhardt responded in a big way, plating one run in the second and then tacked on six runs in the third inning. Mantooth broke a 3-2 game open with a two-run double, and Stephens followed with a two-run homer to left center. Dion capped the frame with a solo shot, giving the Eagles a 7-3 lead.

The Eagles continued to pile on in the fourth, scoring six more runs. Boscarino launched a two-run homer, and Dion added his second blast of the game, a two-run shot to left center, stretching the lead to 13-3.

Cumberland got a run back in the fifth when Kuriya singled to bring home Hunter Moser. LaRue added a solo home run in the seventh, but Mantooth put an end to the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to enforce the 10-run rule.

On the mound, Ryan Calvert (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) in the third inning.

Cumberland has added a home game for this Thursday. The Phoenix will play a single nine-inning game against Michigan-Dearborn at 1:00 p.m.
