WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Men's Volleyball falls 3-1 Against Saint Mary's-of-the-Woods on the road.

The Phoenix jumped out in set one with a 5-0 run to open the game and jump to a 5-1 lead. The Phoenix led by as many as seven points at 14-7. The Pomeroys accounted for six attack errors early in set one which gave the Phoenix larger leads and helped them go on multiple runs. The Pomeroys went on a 3-0 run and inched closer only down by four at 14-10. A series of kills by Jake Whyte led the Phoenix to another run and increased the deficit 18-13. SMWC went on another run and put them only two points away from a tie at 18-16. The Phoenix closed it out in a near comeback at a final score of 25-22. 

In set two, SMWC opened the set with a 3-0 run, setting the tone. The Pomeroys continued to go on small runs and continued to lead the Phoenix. Cumberland brought it back within one point at 12-11. The Phoenix accounted for some attacking errors and gave SMWC a six point lead at 18-12. The Phoenix went on another push that was led by Joao Infante and Whyte kills but it was not enough for the Phoenix to escape defeat in set two. SMWC takes set two 25-22.

The Phoenix led the third set until the seventh point in the set. Kills from Joao Infante and Whyte led the Phoenix to a great start but the Pomeroys continued to find their way back in the mix. Kaden Kuehler came in clutch for CU with two big time kills to tie the game at 14 and at 16. A kill by Infante tied it at 25-25. However, the Phoenix had two attack errors that gave the Pomeroys the victory in the third set that gave SMWC a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth set was back and forth until SMWC went on a 3-0 run to give them the lead 13-10. The Phoenix never bounced back from the run and the Pomeroys continued to pile on to the score offensively. The Phoenix dropped the fourth and the final set of the day 25-19 winning the match 3-1. 

Joao Infante led the Phoenix in the kills column with 19, Jake Whyte recorded 15 kills himself. 

Alexander Heuer led the way for the Phoenix in digs and he recorded 26. Kaden Kuehler led hitting a big time .500 for the Phoenix. 

The Phoenix will be back in action Tuesday, March 25th for Senior Night against Midway University!
