Three Wrestlers Still Competing in Championship Bracket After NAIA National Championship Morning Session

PARK CITY, Kan. - - Cumberland Wrestling had three wrestlers advance in the Championship bracket while four more are still competing in the consolation bracket.

At 141, seventh-ranked Jared Dinh took on no. 25 Zack Zitek from Dakota Wesleyan and advanced with a majority decision victory, 12-3. The junior will now take on 10-seed Conner Kimbrough from Indiana Tech who had a bye in the first round.

Next up, fifth-ranked 149 pounder, Victor Guzman, wrestled took on unranked Steven Barnes from Concordia and, like Dinh, won via a major decision, 14-3. Guzman advances to take on No. 12 Kristofer Arrey from Missouri Valley.

Eli Clemmons and Ethan Gomez are representing the Phoenix at 165, with Gomez dropping his matchup and advancing Clemmons on a bye. Gomez faced off with the No. 8 ranked wrestler from William Penn, Cameron Hargrove, and lost in a close decision, 12-10. Gomez will now move to the consolation bracket and is set to face off against the loser of the seven and ten seed in the next round.

Clemmons made it to the next round with a bye and will now take on No. 6 ranked Turner Black from conference rivals Cumberlands.

Cameron Nesbitt competed at 174 pounds and dropped his matchup with 3-seed Kris Ketchum from St. Thomas in a majority decision loss, 11-0. Nesbitt moves to the consolation bracket and after a first round bye will now face the loser of Shad Slone and Benedict Holthaus.

Rocco Horvath was upset in his opening round matchup at 184, dropping a majority decision, 20-9, to Bryce Milster from Oklahoma City. Horvath moved down to the consolation bracket and won his first matchup in the bracket by pinfall, taking down Trevor Stuyvenberg from Indiana Tech. Horvath now moves on to face off with the loser of Sawyer Hobbs and Thomas Ketchen-Carter.

Tyler Rowland competed in the Phoenix's heaviest weight class at 194, taking on the 7-seeded wrestler Elijah Hynes from Missouri Valley. Rowland dropped his match in a razor thin decision, 5-4, but won his first match in the consolation bracket.

The junior shut his opponent from Lourdes, Carter Kroll, out with a major decision victory, 12-0. Rowland will now take on the loser of Asher Ruchti and Burton Brandt in the second round of the consolation bracket.

Session II will begin tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Park City Arena.
