Guzman and Dinh Clinch All-American Status to Finish Day Two

PARK CITY, Kan.--Jared Dinh and Victor Guzman secure NAIA All-American honors to wrap up day two of the NAIA National Championship. 

Victor Guzman had all the momentum heading into session IV and the semifinals at 149. With the winner set to move on to tomorrow night's championship match, Guzman and 8-seed Elijah Larsen from Grand View. Larsen got up on Guzman 3-0 after the first and added four more points in the second with an escape to start followed by a takedown. Larsen picked up a third takedown in the third to go to win 10-2. 

With the loss, Guzman was sent to the consolation semifinals. Tomorrow he will face 2-seed Nathan Lendt from Doane. If he wins, he will move on to the third place match and a loss would send him to the fifth place match.

Jared Dinh had an exciting match in the blood round at 141 against conference opponent and 13-seed Adrian Ayala. Dinh had a 3-1 lead after the first period against Ayala. Ayala responded with an escape to start the second and a takedown of his own. Dinh was able to get an escape to trail by one going to the third. In the third, he used an escape to tie the match up where it stood at the end of seven minutes. The match went into overtime and in the second overtime round, Dinh had an escape with nine seconds left to get the win and move on as an All-American. 

In the consolation quarterfinals, Dinh went against 6-seed Creighton Baughman from Concordia. Dinh caught Baughman early in the first round and rolled him for a pin two minutes in to advance to the consolation semis tomorrow against No. 5 seed Cade Manion from Oklahoma City. 

Eli Clemmons and Tyler Rowland each wrestled in the blood round tonight, but both suffered losses to end one win shy of All-American status. Clemmons lost via major decision to 9-seed Reese Jones. Rowland lost a 4-3 decision to 11-seed Gentry Smith from Southeastern. 

Grand View has opened up a 50 point lead in the hunt for the team national championship with 176.5 points. Life University is in second with 125.0. The only other team over 100 points is Southeastern with 107.0 in third. 

Cumberland remains in 12th place with 36.5 points. 

Session V tomorrow morning will be the final session for the Phoenix at the NAIA National Championships this season. The session will start at 11:00 a.m. with the consolation semifinals followed by the placement matches. Tomorrow night will be session VI and that will be all the NAIA National Championship matches.
