Georgetown Spoils Senior Day for the Phoenix

LEBANON, Tenn.— Cumberland put together a three-run fifth inning but couldn't overcome early errors and missed opportunities, falling 5-3 to Georgetown in the final game of the weekend series against the Tigers.

After falling behind 5-0, the Phoenix sparked life in the bottom of the fifth. Anna Lay led off with a single, then stole both second and third before scoring on an RBI single from Abby Chappell. Ashley Evans, who had reached on a walk and stolen second, also scored on the play. Chappell then came around to score on a Tiger error, trimming the lead to two.

Cumberland threatened again in the sixth but couldn't push anything across. The Phoenix were limited to five hits in the game, with Lay, Evans, Chappell, Sara Brogdon, and Brylee Bartley each collecting one. Chappell drove in two runs and was the only Phoenix hitter to reach base multiple times.

Madison Croxford took the loss in the circle, allowing three unearned runs over three innings. Madison Lancaster pitched the final four innings, giving up just one earned run and striking out four.

Cumberland will wrap up the regular season on the road next week, taking on Lindsey Wilson both Friday and Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM on Friday.
