Bats Cold as Cumberland Shut Out in Doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky.--Cumberland softball was held scoreless Wednesday in an 8-0 run-rule loss and a 5-0 loss at Lindsey Wilson to start the series.

The Phoenix were limited to just four hits in the contest, two of which came off the bat of Hailey Donato, who also doubled in the third. Karley Daughrity added a double in the fourth, and Jacey  Hatfield singled and walked while also swiping a base.

Lindsey Wilson capitalized on defensive miscues in the second, scoring five unearned runs on three hits and two Cumberland errors. They added one more in the third on an RBI single from Kendall Dailey and capped the game with a two-run homer by Natalie Wandrie in the fourth.

Madison Croxford (8-10) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven hits and eight runs, only three of which were earned over 3.1 innings. Carley Clinard tossed the final two outs in relief.

Kayden Murray picked up the win throwing four innings. Murray gave up just two hits, walked two, and struck out six. K'Asia Palmer threw the final inning surrendering two hits and no runs.

Cumberland threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but a close play at the plate ended the inning and sealed the shutout for Lindsey Wilson.

Cumberland  was again stifled in game two at the plate, falling 5-0. The Phoenix  managed just three hits and were unable to push across a run for the second straight game, as Lindsey Wilson built an early lead and never looked back.

Hatfield, Daughrity, and Brogdon each recorded hits for Cumberland, while Hatfield also made several solid plays defensively at shortstop.

The Blue Raiders broke a scoreless tie in the second with three runs, capitalizing on a double from Natalie Shaw and a two-RBI single from Nora Epley. They added two more in the fifth off a single by Dailey.
Madison Lancaster (5-8) went the distance for Cumberland, allowing seven hits and five earned runs over six innings of work. She walked four and struck out two in the 100-pitch effort.

Hallie Roberts (5-9) earned the win tossing a complete game shutout. Roberts allowed just three hits and struck out six in the win.

The Phoenix and Blue Raiders will meet for game three tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
