Blue Raiders Take Weekday Series from Phoenix in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Cumberland Softball couldn't recover from a big second inning by Lindsey Wilson, dropping a 7-1 decision.

The Blue Raiders did all their damage early, scoring five runs in the second inning and adding two more in the fourth to take control. Cumberland's only run came in the fourth when Abby Chappell launched a solo home run to left—her first of the season.

Chappell finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and an RBI. Karley Daughrity added a 2-for-2 day with a double and a sacrifice bunt. Sara Brogdon also reached base once via walk, and Kara Wheeler drew a walk in the seventh.

Cumberland struggled to capitalize with runners on, stranding nine baserunners in the game. The Phoenix totaled four hits and drew four walks but struck out nine times against a combination of three Lindsey Wilson pitchers.

In the circle, Carley Clinard took the loss, allowing five runs (only one earned) in 1.2 innings. Madison Lancaster and Annalee Moore combined for the final 4.1 innings, with Moore tossing 2.1 scoreless frames and striking out one.

The Phoenix will now look to the postseason, awaiting their opening round opponent in the MSC Tournament next week.
