Phoenix Down No. 12 Eagles in Regular Season Home Finale

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Phoenix had revenge on their mind as they hosted the no. 12 ranked Reinhardt Eagles, who took them down 3-1 earlier this season.

The away side ran out early as they jumped on the slow start of the Phoenix, but the match quickly settled into a dogfight. Seven ties in the first set goes to show how closely contested this one was, though the Phoenix held a slight edge early.

It was all the way up to 18-18 that it looked like the Phoenix were in charge of the set, until Reinhardt pulled away with their first lead since the earlier parts of the set. Going down 21-20, Cumberland took a timeout and responded with a Joao Infante kill to level things up.

Cumberland pulled away with a lead and had five set points to take the first, making use of all five as the Phoenix finally took the set, 30-28.

The beginning of the second set made it look as though it would play out much like the first, but a Reinhardt run helped the away side pull ahead. Winning six points in a row, the set quickly turned from 8-8 to 14-8, and Cumberland was unable to recover, falling 25-18.

Responding to a set loss just about as well as a team can, the Phoenix jumped all over the Eagles to run out to an 8-2 lead. Reinhardt did respond with a five point run of their own to make the match closer, though Cumberland was not to be denied, winning the set 25-21.

The good times kept flowing in the fourth set as the Phoenix would fall behind early but rally back in a big way. After going down 12-10, Cumberland went on a five-point run, as well as winning eight of the next ten points, taking a big advantage over the Eagles.

Reinhardt did make a late run as they were down 23-18 and forced a CU timeout with back-to-back points, 23-20. The Eagles came out and won the following point after the timeout to make it a two point deficit but then made a service error, giving Cumberland a set point, 24-21.

Blocking their way to victory, Kaden Kuehler and Chance Gallardo sealed it for Cumberland, grabbing the Phoenix's ninth block of the night.

Joao Infante had to battle it out with one of the Eagles for the match-lead in blocks, but his final total of 28 was too much for anyone on the night. Abdallah Roshdy was also just shy of the half century mark for assists with 47

Cumberland will be back in action on Friday as they hit the road to face off with last season's National Champions, Georgetown.
