Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 13 Phoenix fall to No. 4 Patriots 5-0

LEBANON, Tenn. – No. 13 Cumberland falls to No. 4 Patriots 5-0.

To start out the game, the Phoenix tried to set the tone, but the Patriots would find the back of the net quickly on a strike just inside the box in the 10th minute.

The Phoenix would find some more opportunities to get a goal in net, but the strong Patriot defense was not allowing anything to get through.

In the 21st minute, the Patriots would double the lead on a similar play to the first goal.

After a red card to the Phoenix was shown, they would play 10 vs 11 for the rest of the game.

And the Patriots would take advantage as they would find their third goal of the half just 45 seconds after the red card was shown.

At the half, the Phoenix were down 0-3, down a man, but were still competitive in the shots and SOGs. Where the Phoenix had five shots, with two on goal, the Patriots had six shots, with four on goal.

In the second half, the Phoenix tried to push the pace, and Wesley Mendoza had a good opportunity with the goalkeeper out of his net, but the defense got there and stopped the shot.

George Irons would come into the game after halftime and show some poise, but it wasn't enough as the Patriots would get another goal, this time off of a corner kick.

After that, it started to slow down, and the Phoenix were able to get some more shots on target. However, the final goal for the Patriots was scored in the 78th minute, and that was the game.

The total stats for the Phoenix were 10 shots and five shots on goal. Meanwhile, the Patriots would have 17 shots and nine shots on goal.

The Phoenix look to rebound on the road as they head to Savannah, Georgia, to face SCAD Savannah on Wednesday, September 24, at 11 AM.
