Phoenix Put Seven Past Bearcats in Weather-Delayed Matchup

LEBANON, Tenn. – After several hours of weather delays yesterday afternoon, the Phoenix resumed play today and took down the Brescia Bearcats 7-0.

Cumberland posted two goals in the first half to set the tone. Olga Wallemo got the scoring started as she took the ball away from a back line defender for Brescia and beat the keeper with her right foot for the goal.

Two minutes later, Niamh Warrender played a great long ball forward to Kadisha Martina. Martina played an incredible touch using her shoulder to pass outside to Adelyn Drane and she buried the shot for a 2-0 lead.

The Phoenix put five shots on goal in the first half while the Bearcats were limited to just one despite having two corner kicks.

Cumberland kept the pressure on the Bearcats after the break. The Phoenix fired off quick shots and picked up two corners, but scored again when Wallemo found the back of the net for the second time in the 52nd minute. Seika Stull fired a shot that deflected right to Wallemo for the first brace of her career.

The Bearcats had their best opportunity in the 56th minute, though Ciaera Johnson met the shot with a strong hand. Brescia's Evangelene Farfan found herself behind the backline, but Johnson crashed quickly and made a terrific save to keep Brescia off the board.

In the 61st minute of action, the game was called for another lightning delay which parlayed into the suspension of play until Thursday at 2 PM.

Returning back to action this afternoon, Cumberland came out firing on all cylinders. Within four minutes of the resume Cumberland had taken six shots, including freshman Adelelyn Drane's first brace of her career like Wallemo. Sky Hull took a shot from range which ricocheted off the bar and dropped to Drane at the second post who delivered the strike to make it 4-0.

Cumberland peppered the goal with shots until the very end, putting three more goals in the back of the net. Seika Stull assisted a pair of goals, first laying a pass off to Victoria Collins, 5-0, then delivering a killer corner to Uxia Varela who scored with just one touch.

Finally, the Phoenix closed out their day with a long ball from Lilly Adair, giving way for Allyson Hawkins to round the keeper and bury the seventh goal of the game. In total the Phoenix outshot the Bearcats 46-5, 19 of which made their way on target.

Cumberland will hit the road for Indiana as they take on Oakland City this Saturday, kicking off at 3:30 PM.
