Phoenix Dominate Blue Raiders for Largest Margin of Victory in Series History

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland delivered a dominant performance on the mat, rolling past Lindsey Wilson 38-3 in what marked the largest margin of victory for the Phoenix over the Blue Raiders in the series.

Cumberland won nine of the 10 bouts on the day, piling up bonus points and controlling the match from start to finish.

The Phoenix jumped out early behind wins at 125 and 133 pounds, as No. 20 Chase Walker secured an 8–3 decision before Bentley Ellison followed with a hard-fought 4-1 sudden-victory win.

The momentum continued at 141, where No. 3 Sammy Shires turned in one of the highlights of the day against fourth-ranked Adrian Ayala. After Ayala tied the bout with a takedown with just 20 seconds remaining, Shires calmly escaped in the final 10 seconds to earn a dramatic 5-4 decision in a matchup of top-five wrestlers.

Cumberland stretched the lead with emphatic performances in the middle weights. Top-ranked Victor Guzman recorded a 20-3 technical fall at 149, while Elijah Griffin added a 14-6 major decision at 157. No. 20 Ethan Gomez followed with a gritty 4-2 decision at 165, before No. 16 Anthony Pyron electrified the crowd with a pin at 174, sticking his opponent at the 4:20 mark to push the margin further in Cumberland's favor.

After Lindsey Wilson picked up its lone win at 184, the Phoenix closed the match in decisive fashion. No. 10 Tyler Rowland dominated at 197 with a 17-0 technical fall, setting the stage for a memorable finish at heavyweight. Competing in his first match as a Phoenix, Noah Todd capped the day with authority, pinning 19th-ranked Miguel Perez just 50 seconds into the bout to seal the 38-3 team victory.

The Phoenix will look to take the momentum into the Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall, Missouri this weekend.
