Dinh Leads Phoenix with 141 Crown, Eight Cumberland Wrestlers Place


LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland produced a strong showing across the brackets in the open tournament, highlighted by eight podium finishes and a championship performance from Jared Dinh at 141 pounds. 

Jared Dinh turned in a flawless performance at 141 pounds, capturing the individual title with a perfect 3-0 record. After a first-round bye, Dinh dominated his quarterfinal with a technical fall and followed with a major decision in the semifinals. He sealed the championship with a hard-fought 4-2 decision in the finals, earning first place and adding 15.5 team points to the Cumberland total.

Bentley Ellison delivered a dominant run to the finals at 133 pounds, placing second after four matches. Ellison opened the tournament with a 7-1 decision before earning a quick pin in the quarterfinals and a decisive technical fall in the semifinals. He capped the day with a runner-up finish after facing Isaac Thornton in the championship bout, finishing with a 3-1 record and contributing 13.5 team points.

Antonio Parker powered his way to a second-place finish at 157 pounds with an impressive mix of pins and bonus-point victories. Parker opened with a fall before recording three straight technical falls and a medical forfeit win to reach the finals. He concluded the tournament as the runner-up after an 8-2 decision in the championship match, posting a 4-1 record and leading all Phoenix wrestlers with 18.0 team points.

Rocco Horvath advanced to the championship bout at 184 pounds, placing second after a dominant tournament run. Horvath opened with a technical fall in the quarterfinals and followed with another tech fall in the semifinals to secure his spot in the finals. He wrapped up the event with a runner-up finish after a medical forfeit in the title match, finishing 2-1 overall and scoring 13.0 team points.

Tyler Rowland turned in a strong performance at 197 pounds, finishing second with three convincing victories. Rowland earned a pin in the round of 16 before posting consecutive major decisions in the quarterfinals and semifinals. He concluded the tournament as the runner-up following a medical forfeit in the championship match, ending the day 3-1 with 15.0 team points.

Kaleb Ruhl bounced back from a semifinal setback to claim third place at 125 pounds with a strong finish in the consolation bracket. After earning an 8-7 decision in the quarterfinals, Ruhl was sent to the backside following a loss to Life University's Mikey Doerr. He responded emphatically, securing back-to-back pinfall victories in the consolation semifinals and the third-place bout to close out the tournament with a 3-1 record and 10.5 team points.

Wyatt Howard placed fourth at 149 pounds following a productive run through the bracket. Howard picked up wins by technical fall and decision to advance to the semifinals, where he suffered a pinfall loss. He rebounded with a 7-0 decision in the consolation semifinals before finishing fourth after a loss in the third-place match, ending the tournament with a 3-2 record and seven team points.

Logan Heckert secured a fourth-place finish at 184 pounds with a strong showing across four matches. After a bye, Heckert earned a pinfall victory in the quarterfinals before falling by decision in the semifinals. He bounced back with a quick pin in the consolation semifinals before finishing fourth following a medical forfeit in the third-place bout, compiling a 3-1 record and 8.5 team points.

The Phoenix will be in action tomorrow with a big dual with regular season conference championship implications on the line against No. 7 Cumberlands at 1:00 p.m. inside the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
