Men's Volleyball Sweeps Judson in Final Tune-Up Before Conference Play

ELGIN, Ill.--Cumberland Men's Volleyball delivered a complete performance on Thursday night, earning a straight-set sweep of Judson, 25-22, 25-20, 27-25, inside the Lindner Fitness Center.

Cumberland finished with 47 kills on 95 attempts with just 11 errors for a strong .379 hitting percentage. The Phoenix dished out 44 assists on 47 kills, committed only one ball-handling error, and totaled nine team blocks three solo, 12 assists).

From the service line, Cumberland recorded three aces on 76 attempts, while defensively adding 34 digs. The Phoenix capitalized on Judson's 16 attack errors and held the Eagles to a .240 hitting clip overall.

Zendai Richards led all players with 15 kills on 24 swings, hitting .542. He added four digs and a solo block. Joao Infante tallied 12 kills, three service aces, and four total blocks while hitting .286. Francesco Corradini was efficient in the middle with six kills on eight attempts (.750) and a team-high six block assists. Frederick Amegbletor added five kills on a .571 percentage along with a solo block. Nage Hendrickson chipped in seven kills and a block. 

Austin Kuehler directed the offense with 35 assists and eight digs, helping Cumberland hit .333 or better in every set. Defensively, Alexander Heuer anchored the back row with 13 digs.
Judson recorded 39 kills on 96 attempts with 16 errors, finishing at .240 for the match. The Eagles totaled 37 assists, four service aces, and five total blocks. Defensively, Judson posted 29 digs but was hurt by 12 service errors and several late-set miscues that allowed Cumberland to close each frame.

Mason Snodgrass paced the Eagles with 11 kills and three service aces. Ramsey Vuorenmaa added 11 kills and a solo block. Grant Shipley contributed five kills on a .556 clip with three total blocks. Matthew Leith dished out 13 assists and four kills. Jackson Otto led the team defensively with 12 digs.

The opening set featured seven ties as both teams traded points early. Trailing 11-10, Cumberland used a mid-set surge sparked by kills from Richards and Infante to build a small cushion. With the score tight at 21-20, the Phoenix closed strong behind key swings from Corradini and Infante to secure the 25-22 win.

Judson jumped out to an early lead, but Cumberland responded quickly behind balanced offense and improved blocking at the net. A pair of service aces from Infante highlighted a pivotal run that turned a one-point deficit into a multi-point advantage. The Phoenix limited errors down the stretch and pulled away late to take the set 25-20.

The final set was the most competitive, featuring 12 ties and four lead changes. Judson held a 24-23 edge late, but Cumberland responded under pressure. Back-to-back kills from Richards helped the Phoenix extend the frame, and after knotting the score at 25-25, Cumberland capitalized on an Eagles attack error before finishing the match on another Judson miscue to complete the sweep, 27-25.
The Phoenix now prepare for conference play and their first home match of the season. Cumberland welcomes Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods to the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena on Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m.
