Wildcats Down Phoenix on Senior Day

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland University women's basketball team fell to conference foe Bethel University 74-54 on Saturday afternoon inside Lebanon.

The Phoenix struck first and briefly held the advantage early in the opening quarter, but Bethel answered with a 7-0 run midway through the frame to take control. Ty Buckley and Sydney Schwallie poured in shots to keep it close but a three-pointer from Micah Hart in the final two minutes helped the visitors push their lead to 16-9 at the end of one.

Cumberland battled in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 10 late after an Ever Walker three-pointer just before the half, making it 32-22.

The game shifted decisively in the third quarter where Bethel shot an efficient 9-of-13 from the floor in the period, stretching the lead to as many as 21 points. Micah Hart and Mikee Buchanan combined for 14 points in the quarter alone, helping the Wildcats outscore Cumberland 23-13 and build a 55-35 cushion heading into the fourth.

Bethel extended its lead to 25 early in the final period before both teams traded baskets down the stretch. Cumberland matched Bethel with 19 points in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the earlier deficit.

Micah Hart led all scorers with 30 points on an efficient 13-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. Buchanan added 14 points, while Madison Hart chipped in 12.

For Cumberland, Emaleigh Tarpley paced the Phoenix with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Schwallie and Ever Walker each added 10 points, with Walker knocking down a pair of three-pointers and converting key free throws late to hit double-digits.

Cumberland will look to regroup as they await their Mid-South Conference tournament seeding.
