LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland men's tennis team opened up their home campaign with a strong 6-1 win over MSC rivals Campbellsville.

The Phoenix picked up the doubles point, winning on courts two and three, before rolling through the Tigers in singles action. Arne Sohmer and Arthur Fernandes were dominant at the second spot, winning 6-1, though Mohamed Bouhlel and Mateus Mori would not be outdone, also winning 6-1.

Carlos Morillas and Matheus Guarnieri tried to pull off the sweep in doubles, but were met by a big comeback on court one, falling 7-5.

Cumberland won in straight sets on courts two, three, and four, helping to seal the victory for the home team early on. Mohamed Bouhlel carried over his doubles form into singles, winning 6-2, 6-3, though his teammate Arthur Fernandes won even quicker as he surrendered just one game, 6-2, 6-0.

Arne Sohmer wrapped up the straight sets victories, though he would have to do it in a second set tiebreak, 6-1, 7-6 (12-10). Mateus Mori then followed that second set tiebreak victory with a full third set tiebreak win on court five. The Brazilian went up 6-4 in the first but was swept in his second second set, making way for a battle of a third, 7-6 (7-4).

The final win of the afternoon came in a match tiebreak, as Matheus Guarnieri won 6-2, 3-6, 10-3. Carlos Morillas wasn't able to find a way past the Tigers top player, falling 6-3, 6-0.
